Therapeutic Riding
What is it?
Therapeutic riding is the means of teaching those with disabilities or special needs the fundamentals of riding.
How does it differ?
The primary difference between hippotherapy and therapeutic riding is that in
therapeutic riding you are specifically taught riding skills by a specially trained
riding instructor as opposed to a therapist. Many who start in hippotherapy
progress to therapeutic riding.
Benefits
Therapeutic riding builds confidence and independence by involving the child in the
basic care and preparation of the horse, in addition to progressing to riding
independently.
